Sauleda Coco Shade – heavy-duty coconut fibre shade sail (950–1000 g/m²)

The Sauleda Coco Shade is a shade sail made from 100% natural coconut fibre by Sauleda, a Spanish family company from Barcelona specialising in awning and sun-protection fabrics. The coconut yarn is spun around a cotton thread core and woven into a sturdy 950–1000 g/m² fabric with an open 1 × 1 cm mesh.

The result: dappled shade like under a reed pergola on the Mediterranean – over your patio, pool, lounge or hospitality venue. Its warm, natural look fits perfectly with boho, Ibiza and Bali styles.

✔ 100% natural coconut fibre with cotton core

✔ Sturdy fabric: 950–1000 g/m²

✔ Open 1 × 1 cm mesh: breathable and breaks the wind

✔ Stainless steel thimbles in every corner (3, 4 or 8 points)

✔ Supplied fumigated, ready to install

✔ 100% biodegradable

What makes the Sauleda Coco Shade special?

01. Heavy and sturdy
At 950–1000 g/m², this is a sturdy coconut fabric. The fibres are naturally strong and resistant to moisture.

02. Cool and airy
The open structure lets air circulate freely, keeping the space underneath pleasantly fresh. The sail softens the sun and breaks the wind instead of catching it like a closed sail.

03. Stainless steel thimbles for secure fixing
Triangular, square and rectangular sails have stainless steel thimbles: 3 points on the triangles, 4 on the smaller sizes and 8 on the largest (4 × 4 m and 4 × 5 m).

04. 100% natural and biodegradable
No plastic, no coating: at the end of its life the sail breaks down naturally, without polluting waste.

05. Wide range
Square, triangular or rectangular up to 4 × 5 m, complemented by a 1 × 20 m coconut fibre net for pergolas and large spans and a matching coconut rope.

Please note: coconut fibre is a 100% natural, supple woven material. The stated dimensions apply to the sail when tensioned and mounted – untensioned (straight out of the packaging) it measures noticeably smaller, as the weave stretches once correctly tensioned. Even when tensioned, the actual size may differ by approx. 5–8% from the nominal size. This is inherent to the natural weaving process and not a manufacturing defect.

Easy installation

Thanks to the stainless steel thimbles, you can tension the sail in no time between a façade, posts or a pergola. Use the matching Sauleda coconut rope for a fully natural look, or carabiners and stainless steel tensioners for a taut finish.

Care

Brush off dirt and leaf debris regularly. Let the sail dry completely in the open air after rain and store it dry in winter – this extends the life of this natural product.

FAQ

Is a coconut fibre shade sail waterproof?

No — and that's deliberate. The open structure lets air and rain pass through, so the sail dries quickly, doesn't flap in the wind, and stays pleasantly cool underneath. For waterproof solutions, take a look at our parasols and closed shade sails.

How long does a coconut fibre shade sail last?

Coconut fibre is naturally strong and moisture-resistant. With normal use throughout the outdoor season, the sail lasts several years. Store it dry over winter to extend its lifespan.

Can the sail stay outside permanently?

The sail is made for outdoor use and resists moisture. As a 100% natural product it weathers gradually — that's part of its charm. For maximum lifespan, take it down during prolonged winter weather.

Does the colour vary between sails?

Yes, slightly. Coconut fibre is a natural product: each batch has its own warm tone and texture. No two sails are identical — which is exactly what makes them authentic.

How do I fix the shade sail?

Every corner features a stainless steel thimble. Attach it with coconut rope, carabiners or tensioners to wall anchors, posts or a pergola. Tension the sail at a slight angle so it keeps its natural drape.

What is the difference between the Sauleda and the BazarBizar Coco Shade?

The Sauleda Coco Shade is a sturdy 950–1000 g/m² fabric with a cotton core and stainless steel thimbles in the corners, available up to 4 × 5 m with matching coconut net and rope. The BazarBizar Coco Shade is handwoven, lighter (approx. 730–800 g/m²) and has hand-braided edges with mounting loops, in 5 sizes up to 3 × 5 m. Sauleda is the sturdiest choice for large spans; choose BazarBizar for an artisan, handwoven look.
