Buy a dog bike trailer: choose by your dog's weight and height
A dog bike trailer lets you take your dog along on the bike when it can't (or can no longer) run alongside: an older dog, a dog recovering from surgery or an injury, a puppy that shouldn't cover long distances yet, or simply a dog that can't keep up for a whole ride. Your dog lies or sits in a closed cabin with mesh windows and is clipped to its harness inside. Choose first by the manufacturer's maximum weight, then by the height of the cabin, and then by how you will use it: only behind the bike, or also as a stroller on foot.
Real bike trailer or 2-in-1 stroller and trailer?
A 2-in-1 model is first of all a dog stroller with a tow bar: one purchase for walking and cycling, and better value. These are the InnoPet models and the AirBuggy CUBE NEST BIKE. A real bike trailer such as the Croozer Dog is built to ride behind the bike, with AirPad suspension, a low 18 to 21 cm entry and a tall cabin. If you want to walk with it, you buy the stroller kit separately.
Dogs up to 35 kg
The InnoPet Noah (up to 25 kg, weighing only 11 kg) is a stroller, bike trailer and carrier in one; the tow bar is sold separately as the InnoPet bike tow bar. The InnoPet Sporty range carries 30 kg in a 68 × 40 cm cabin, with the tow bar included: the Sporty EVR with puncture-proof rubber tyres, and the Sporty Deluxe and Sporty Evolution with 16-inch air tyres at the rear. For a real bike trailer for a medium-sized dog, the Croozer Dog Enna L carries up to 35 kg, with 62 cm of interior height, a 75 cm floor, a 32 × 53 cm door and an 18 cm entry.
Large dogs up to 45 and 50 kg
Choose the InnoPet Hercules 2.0 XL (up to 50 kg, cabin 85 × 61 × 61 cm) in the version with bike connection; the tow bar mounts on the left or right. The AirBuggy CUBE NEST BIKE is a dog stroller for dogs up to 45 kg with a low entry (25.5 cm), which you hitch with the included towbar to a bike with a rear wheel of at least 20 inches. For large, tall dogs there are the Croozer Dog Mikke XL and Croozer Dog Tammo XXL, both up to 45 kg. The Mikke has 77 cm of interior height and a 90 cm long floor. With 87 cm of interior height and a 100 cm floor, the Tammo is the choice for long-legged dogs. Both have a 46 cm wide door and a 21 cm entry.

Frequently asked questions about dog bike trailers
Which bike trailer suits a large dog?
Look at two things: weight and height. Up to 50 kg, the InnoPet Hercules 2.0 XL carries your dog in a 61 cm high cabin. If your dog is large and tall, the Croozer Dog Mikke XL (77 cm interior height) and Tammo XXL (87 cm) give more room to stand upright, for a maximum of 45 kg.
Can I use a dog trailer behind an e-bike?
That depends on the brand. InnoPet advises against using its trailers behind an e-bike: e-bikes easily exceed the 16 km/h InnoPet recommends as a maximum, and with a rear hub motor the coupling piece often does not fit. Always follow the instructions of your trailer's manufacturer.
How fast can I cycle with a dog trailer?
InnoPet recommends a maximum of 16 km/h on straight roads and 5 km/h in bends. Clip your dog to its harness in the cabin with the safety leash.
Can I also go for walks with the trailer?
Yes. The InnoPet Noah, Sporty EVR, Sporty Deluxe, Sporty Evolution and Hercules 2.0 are first of all dog strollers, just like the AirBuggy CUBE NEST BIKE. For the Croozer Dog Enna, Mikke and Tammo, you buy the Croozer stroller kit separately to push the trailer on foot.
Does the trailer fit every bike?
The InnoPet tow bar mounts on the left or right of your bike's rear axle with a 10 mm coupling piece. The AirBuggy NEST BIKE TOWBAR needs a rear wheel of at least 20 inches. Croozer uses the Click & Crooz coupling; for bikes with a thru-axle or an Enviolo hub there are dedicated Croozer axle nuts and thru-axles. If in doubt, send us a photo of your rear axle.
