Dog buggy or TAVO travel system — what's the difference?

Dog buggy or TAVO travel system — what's the difference?

"Dog buggy" and "travel system" are often used interchangeably, but they're two different products with a different purpose. A dog buggy like the AirBuggy is built for walking. A TAVO travel system is a combination of an ISOFIX car seat and a compatible stroller frame, built to move your pet safely from the car to the walk without ever disturbing them. In this article we explain the difference, so you know exactly what you need.

1. What is a dog buggy?

A dog buggy, like the AirBuggy DOME 3, is designed for use on foot: walking, jogging, shopping or a day out. A dog buggy's cot isn't meant to be secured in the car — it has no ISOFIX anchoring and hasn't been crash-tested. Your dog sits comfortably and safely in it during the walk, but for the car ride itself you need a separate, certified car seat.

2. What is a TAVO travel system?

A TAVO travel system consists of two parts that click seamlessly together: an ISOFIX car seat (such as the TAVO Maeve) and a compatible stroller frame (the TAVO Roscoe Trek). The car seat itself is crash-tested to ECE R129 and fitted with integrated ISOFIX latches — so your dog is genuinely secured during the ride, just like in a child car seat. Once you arrive, you click the car seat out of the car in one motion and directly onto the Roscoe Trek stroller frame. Your dog stays in the same familiar cot, from the driveway to the forest trail, without ever being lifted or moved.

4. What suits your situation?

  • You rarely travel by car and mostly walk from home — a dog buggy like the AirBuggy is enough.
  • You regularly drive with your dog and want to secure them properly — you'll need a certified ISOFIX car seat either way, whether standalone or as part of a travel system.
  • You combine car rides with walks and don't want to keep moving your dog — a TAVO travel system such as Maeve + Roscoe Trek is built for exactly this.
  • You already have a TAVO car seat (Maeve, Hendrick or Dupree II) — the matching stroller frame or the right adapter is enough, no need to buy the full set again.
