K9 Sport Sack dog carrier backpack – take your dog hiking, cycling and travelling
With a K9 Sport Sack you carry your dog on your back, its head next to yours. Handy when your dog can't or shouldn't walk part of the way: on a long walk or hike, on the bike, on public transport or in the city. There are dog backpacks for dogs from 2 to 36 kg, from a light backpack for everyday use to a hiking pack with an internal frame and hip belt.
Large dogs and long hikes; converts to a hiking pack of up to 60 litres
The Knavigate is the model our customers choose most. For large dogs, the Kolossus is the only K9 Sport Sack up to 36 kg.
Looking for the K9 Sport Sack Plus 2 or Air 2? These models are being phased out. The Kompanion replaces the Plus 2, with more padding, a removable hip belt and the Pro System for storage bags. The AIR replaces the Air 2 and the Trainer, with updated sizing for more breeds.
The right size: measure length, not weight
Measure your dog from the collar to the base of the tail. That length determines the size:
XS: 25–33 cm
S: 33–43 cm
M: 43–51 cm
L: 51–58 cm
XL: 58–66 cm (Knavigate) or 58–64 cm (Kolossus)
XXL: 66–74 cm (Kolossus)
Is your dog between two sizes, or broad and sturdily built? Then choose the larger size. If your dog then has a little too much room, place a K9 Sport Sack Booster Block in the bottom: it raises the base by 7.6 cm. It is also handy for a growing puppy: buy the size for its adult length and remove the booster once it is fully grown.
Safe in the backpack
A K9 Sport Sack keeps your dog upright and close to your back. Thanks to:
Collar enclosure with carabiner: clips to your dog's collar or harness so it stays in the backpack.
Lumbar strap: keeps your dog upright and supports its back.
Side cinch straps: tighten the backpack so your dog doesn't slide from side to side.
Zipper loop: the collar enclosure buckle runs through the zipper loop, so the zipper stays closed.
Ventilated mesh side panels: for airflow around your dog.
Tighten the shoulder straps so the backpack doesn't sag and your dog's head sits above your shoulders. K9 Sport Sack recommends carrying your dog for 30 to 45 minutes at a time. Let your dog get used to it calmly: at first it often stands on the base and only sits later, with its front paws on your shoulders.
K9 Sport Sack had the ergonomics of the original design reviewed by a vet. The lumbar strap keeps your dog upright and supports its back. Choose the right size, tighten the straps and, if your dog has health problems, talk to your vet first.
